"Would you... Wash your hair and brush your teeth
with brake fluid, engine degreaser or anti-freeze?
Well you probably are and
don't know it."
Every
day you probably dowse yourself with the same harmful, corrosive
ingredients found in brake fluid, degreasers and anti-freeze.
Many soaps, shampoos, bubble bath, cosmetics, and
toothpastes are loaded with such chemicals. Unfortunately, the
FDA has very few regulations to protect consumers from the
ingredients used by the cosmetic and personal care industries.
The FDA has no right to
approve ingredients, or require companies to do safety testing
of their products, prior to their release into the marketplace.
Therefore, over 800 chemicals available for use in cosmetics
have been reported to the government as toxic substances.
The name of one of these
chemicals is Propylene Glycol. Propylene Glycol is a
colorless viscous hygroscopic liquid CH3CH(OH)CH2OH, used in
anti-freeze solutions, brake and hydraulic fluids, paints and
coatings, floor waxes, laundry detergents, solvents, cosmetics,
toothpastes, shampoos, deodorants and lotions.
The
reason it is used in personal care products is because Propylene
Glycol serves as a Humectant, which is a substance that helps
retain moisture. It therefore makes the skin feel moist
and soft and the products do not dry out. The Material
Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for Propylene Glycol state that this
chemical is implicated in contact dermatitis, kidney damage and
liver abnormalities.
It can inhibit cell growth in human
tests and can damage cell membranes causing rashes, dry skin and
surface damage. The acute effects of exposure to Propylene
Glycol as listed on the MSDS states that it may be harmful by
inhalation, ingestion or skin absorbtion.
Exposure
may also cause eye irritation, skin irritiation,
gastro-intestinal disturbances, nausea, headache and vomiting,
and Central Nervous System depression. The name of another
one of these chemicals is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). SLS
is a harsh (caustic) detergent. It is used as a
surfactant, which breaks down the surface tension of water.
The uses of SLS include concrete floor cleaners, engine
degreasers, car wash detergents, and personal care products
including probably every major brand of toothpaste you can find.
SLS is also a mutagen. Which means that it is capable of
changing the genetic material found in the cells.
It
is routinely used in clinical studies as the control skin
irritant. It enters and maintains residual levels in the
heart, liver, lungs and brain from skin contact. It denatures
proteins and impairs the proper structural formation of young
eyes causing permanent damage. SLS can also damage
the immune system. Along with separation of skin layers
and inflammation to the skin. Yet this chemical is probably
applied to your skin every single day.

Potentially Harmful
Ingredients in Personal Care Products
As
you know, many medications are now administered through patches
on the skin or by placing drops under the tongue. Do you
feel that it would be healthy to have chemicals such as
Propylene Glycol and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate making contact with
your body multiple times a day. Well it has been shown in
most cases to be extremely dangerous to your health.
In
fact, studies have shown that washing your hair one time with a
shampoo containing Sodium Lauryl Sulfate could put as many
nitrates into your bloodstream as eating a whole
pound of bacon. And that is just ONE
application.
The
reason that these chemicals are being used in
your personal care products is that they are
extremely cheap to use and they have the
illusion of being very effective. In most cases
the cap on the bottle costs more that the
ingredients inside.
However,
over 12 years ago an industrial chemist named Tom Mower became
suspicious about dangerous chemicals being used in personal care
products when a large cosmetic company contacted him about
purchasing Propylene Glycol. He could not figure out why a
cosmetic company would want industrial antifreeze for their
products.
By looking into the
matter, Tom found that not only do most personal care companies
use Propylene Glycol in their products but they use many other
potential carcinogens as well. Since that time Tom Mower
has been on a crusade to warn people about these dreadful
ingredients.
Tom
Mower has designed a line of personal care products that are
free of all carcinogens. These products utilize the most
advanced research that science has to offer. He uses
pharmaceutical grade plant extracts and high quality compounds
that when combined together treat your skin like the living,
breathing organism that it is.
This
morning if you brushed your teeth, used deodorant, shampooed and
conditioned your hair, used gels or hairsprays, used mouthwash,
shaved or used soaps and cleansers, used talc or deusched you
may have absorbed up to 5 chemical compounds that are known
carcinogens.
If
dousing your body everyday with carcinogens does not appeal to
you and you would like to find personal care products that
do not contain these dangerous chemicals then I have a solution
for you.
